Your ears pop when you are laying down probably because of allergies, or more specifically your sinus drainage. So when you are laying down the liquid is draining out. If it doesn’t drain out you could get an ear infection. To help what I do is every morning when I wake up I lay on my side for 1 minute, let it all drain out and then on the other side for another minute.

Ear

I haven’t had an ear infection in years, since I started doing that and I used to get them all the time.

Of course I should mention I’m not a doctor so if you have some concerns you should speak to yours. There is also a known medical condition known as Eustachian Tube Dysfunction, which could be causing your ear popping so if you are worried you have that, go see your doctor.

Eustachian Tube Dysfunction can also cause crackling/popping noises. Given the eustachian tube is lined with mucosa which is moist, sometimes the surface may become sticky from inflammation such that any movement whether it be an opening motion or sliding would cause crackling/popping noises. Again, treatment in this case is with steroids nasal sprays for a period of about 6 weeks.
